Following Ys VIII‘s port to Switch this year, the last thing fans expected was another sequel in the mainline series, but Ys IX is on its way.

In a new interview with French outlet ActuGaming, Nihon Falcom president Toshihiro Kondo confirmed the studio’s next game will be Ys IX, as opposed to the expected Ys V remake. According to a tweet translated by Above, Kondo said:

“Regarding the Ys series, we are working on a new game. It will not be a remake but a brand-new title. It will be about Adol and it wil be right after the events of Ys VIII. I hope you will look forward to it.”

Fans expected the next Ys title to be a remake of Ys V, as per series tradition in recent years. A new addition to the series will certainly be warm news to fans, especially following Ys VIII‘s impressive scope.
