Team17 and Playtonic Games have revealed a collaboration to create Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair, a follow-up to the 2017 platformer.

The title will feature 2D levels and a 3D overworld, signalling a departure from the third-person perspective used in the original game. Players will have to once again battle Capital B as they attempt rescue the Royal Beettallion Guard for Queen Phoebee.

Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair is set to release on Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Steam later in 2019. A trailer for the game shows off the new perspective and the types of environment players can expect to find.

Playtonic Games released Yooka-Laylee in 2017, with a Nintendo Switch version coming eight months later. The game took inspiration from classic 3D platformers such as Banjo-Kazooie.
