2K Games and Firaxis have announced XCOM 2 at long last, with a slated release date for November 2015.

In a press release, 2K released the first story details on the game along with an announcement trailer, all of which you can find below.

XCOM 2 transports players 20 years into the future, where humanity lost the war against the alien threat that has established a new world order. The secret paramilitary organization known as XCOM is largely forgotten, and must strike back to reclaim control of Earth and free mankind from the aliens’ rule.

Currently XCOM 2 is only slated to release on the PC platform, which was not the case for the last XCOM installment. We’ll have to wait and see if Firaxis and 2K announce more platforms for the game in the coming weeks. XCOM 2 will most likely be at E3 2015, so hopefully we’ll get our first glimpse of live gameplay there.

  1. The trailer was awesome – I can’t believe we’ll finally see old friends like the Snakemen! And so wonderfully designed to boot! The PC-exclusivity was a surprise, concerning the fact the “first” game was a multiplatform release. Hyped about the setting, although a *lot* of people were angry that Earth lost, despite pooring their time and sweat into their playthroughs. Melee combat is also *amazingly* welcome.
