Ubisoft has discussed the approximate scale of London in Watch Dogs: Legion, suggesting that it will be larger than Grand Theft Auto V‘s San Andreas if a 1:1 recreation is used.
Speaking to GameSpot during E3, the game’s lead producer Sean Crooks described the outermost limits of the map. Camden, which featured in the debut gameplay marks the northern barrier, alongside Shoreditch further east. The easternmost limit is Tower Hamlets, which may include Canary Wharf and the Isle of Dogs.
Heading south, players can venture across the River Thames as far as Brixton, while Buckingham Palace is near the western border of the game’s territory.
This map will factor ensure that some of the city’s tourist highlights appear, including Tower Bridge, the London Eye, and Regent’s Park.
In the unlikely event the game simulates a metre-by-metre recreation of London, the total area, as defined by these barriers, is more than 90km2. In comparison, the entire map of San Andreas measured 81km2, according to one estimate and 75km2 by another.
The estimate, of course, is rough and may not be accurate based on the scale and exact limits of the accessible world, which is unlikely to be cordoned off with straight lines. However, even reducing the borders to the more densely populated central regions leaves the promise of a world larger than the city of Los Santos from GTA V.
However, players will be able to determine the exact size of the map themselves when Watch Dogs Legion releases on March 6, 2020 on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
