EA has confirmed that their first single-player-focused Star Wars game, in development at Visceral Games, will release in calendar year 2018.

In an investors’ earnings call earlier in the week (reported at Gamespot here), EA announced that the release of a sequel to Battlefront in 2017 kicks off three to four years’ worth of Star Wars titles, with Visceral’s game following in 2018. Respawn’s own newly announced Star Wars title will presumably arrive no earlier than 2019.

Visceral Games, the studio behind Dead Space and Dante’s Inferno, has been working on a Star Wars game since 2013, with Amy Hennig coming on to direct after leaving the production of Uncharted 4.

Joining her on the project are Todd Stashwick and Ubisoft alumnus Jade Raymond, whose separate studio ‘Motive’ is involved in assisting several different teams at EA.

Though the scoundrel and/or pirate themes of the game have been known for years, Visceral Games has also been unsubtly hinting that the main character is none other than Han Solo. This has yet to be confirmed by EA or Visceral, so we’ll have to wait and see how these subtle hints pan out.

The involvement of Raymond, who grew in prominence for her work on the Assassin’s Creed series, lends support to hints last year that the game’s setting will be open-world. Nolan North has also said that the new game will resemble Hennig’s work on the Uncharted trilogy, though it is possible that this is more in story and tone than in mechanics.
