Crytek, the company behind the Crysis series, has just formed a new division titled Crytek USA Corp. They’re dead set on establishing a new studio in Austin, Texas, and believe it or not, it’s to be led by former Vigil Games co-founder David Adams alongside some other employees from his now defunct development studio.
The news comes from a statement given to Gamasutra, who were told that the new studio would consist of “35 experienced developers” that are “some of the brightest development talent in the industry.” They were told that many of these employees were former staff members from Vigil games, who recently went under after nobody had the grapes to pick them up at the recent THQ auction.
No projects have been announced or hinted at yet for the American studio, which is the 9th that Crytek has established so far and the first one to be based in the U.S. However, once the ball does get rolling on a potential project for the studio, it’s likely that there will be room for even more staff to join, allowing the ex-Vigil folks to maybe welcome back some of their other jobless friends.
Stay tuned for more news on the happenings that will occur in and around this new Crytek studio. Do you have any speculations as to what they might work on in the future? Let us know!
Great news! I’m glad to hear that someone recognized the wealth of talent at Vigil and gave some of those folks a home. Looking forward to hearing about future projects!
I am so glad that those guys won’t be unemployed. In this economy, that could’ve been a huge problem.
Good for them. Looking forward to what they come up with.
