DONTNOD’s middling vampire-adventure narrative project Vampyr has received a major update, bringing new difficulity modes next week.

September 26 will bring two new difficulity modes to the title, including Story Mode and Harde Mode, which both exist at opposite ends of the toughness spectrum. Story Mode will place significantly more emphasis on narrative and dialogue, with combat acting as little more than a transition between exposition stages.

Hard Mode not only ramps up the difficulty of combat significantly but also throttles the number of experience points received from skirmishes. As a result, players will receive less experience from combat, leaving only embracing citizens as a viable option to earn decent XP.

A host of other small tweaks and refinements come including in the update, with player numbers likely to spike following Vampyr’s involvement with the Focus Home Interactive sale. Be sure to re-visit OnlySP’s Damien Lawardorn’s review of Vampyr, which he described as a “slightly toothless” yet enjoyable experience.
