Many gamers have been looking forward to the new Vampyr title, but DontNod Entertainment hit a bit of a snag during development, resulting in a delay.

Originally scheduled to release by the end of 2017, Vampyr’s tentative launch window has now been moved to spring 2018. Oskar Guilbert, CEO of DontNod Entertainment, had the following to say regarding the decision: “We believe that meeting a deadline should never compromise quality. We were still convinced just a few weeks ago that we would be able to release Vampyr this year. Unfortunately, a technical issue—now solved—has set our teams’ schedule back at the end of development.”

Guilbert then went on to explain that the delay gives the teams enough time to polish and balance the game, which is “much needed for a game of Vampyr’s scope, with its ambitious, semi-open world, its complex narrative, and deep RPG mechanics that give players a real impact on the world.”

Vampyr is now expected to be available in Spring 2018 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.

Vampyr is an upcoming action-RPG developed by DontNod Entertainment and published by Focus Home Interactive. Set in 1918 during the Spanish flu pandemic, the game centers around Jonathan Reid, a doctor-turned-vampire who must come to terms with his undead condition. During the story, Reid is torn between the Hippocratic Oath and the bloodthirsty needs of a vampire. While playing, gamers are under no obligation to kill and can use dialogue to discover prey on which to feed. Feeding replenishes strength and levels up the character while weapons and supernatural abilities are utilized to defeat enemies. London serves as a fictionalized open-world separated into four sections, all of which can be destroyed based on the player’s actions.

DontNod Entertainment is a French video game developer based in Paris, France. Founded in 2008, the company is best known for 2015’s Life is Strange. Along with Vampyr, DontNod also has plans for Life is Strange 2 and a new IP to be published by Bandai Namco.
