Vagrus: The Riven Realms is a turn-based, RPG strategy game set in a post-apocalyptic, dark fantasy world.
RPG fans can expect highly developed lore and world-building aesthetics. The studio also unveiled the outline of the narrative on the game’s Steam page. The protagonist is the leader of a travelling company in Vagrus and set out on a perilous journey across a realm devastated by an arcane cataclysm.
Additionally, players will need to find work in factions, follow rumours, and acquire wealth and fame by finding hidden secrets and quests within a sandbox world accented with hand-crafted branching narratives.
Gergely Mácsai, creative director and the lead writer describes the Riven Realms as a cruel, dark, post-apocalyptic fancy world. He also emphasised that “all aspects of gameplay are turn-based because we believe it is essential for this type of strategy”.
Furthermore, Erika Mácsai-Balog revealed that “combatants have their unique skills and synergies” and player positioning in the strategy-combat game is crucial. Mácsai-Balogand went on to say that players will need to manage crew morale and optimization to improve their effectiveness in battle.
Players will recruit companions into the crew for versatile roles and unveil their unique combat skills, backstories, personal quest lines and enable the upward progression of these crew members for higher combative importance.
Developer Lost Pilgrims Studios’s Alpha Build of the title is currently available to those who have supported it on the crowdfunding platform Fig. CEO and game designer Gábor Szutorisz commented on the support of players in the open launch video:
“Being able to communicate with players from the get-go is a great opportunity for us,” said Szutorisz. “It sort of reminds you of like the way a game master and his players communicate and sort of create the story together.”
Vagrus: The Riven Realms is available on PC, Linux, and Mac, and is estimated to be released in 2020.
