Underworld Ascendant, the brainchild of industry veterans Paul Neurath and Warren Spector, has a new trailer in anticipation for this year’s E3.
The teaser focuses heavily on the project’s stealth and movement mechanics, offering multiple ways to incapacitate and flee from enemies. The gameplay itself centers around free-flowing parkour movement, with players using a bow and different types of arrows to manipulate the environment.
The title is an attempt to replicate the agency-focused design of the early Ultima Underworld games, marrying that design ethos with open-ended gameplay. The trailer, embedded below, also shows off a variety of enemy designs, which borrow heavily from dark fantasy:
The developer, OtherSide Entertainment, crowd-sourced the game in 2015. The studio is made up of several experienced members, including developers on renowned projects such as System Shock 2, Thief, and Deus Ex. OtherSide, parallel with its work on Underworld Ascendant, has been developing System Shock 3. Underworld Ascendant has been given a release date of September 2018 on PC.
