Danish studio Ultra Ultra has announced the September 19, 2017 launch of its debut third-person sci-fi adventure game, ECHO.

First revealed in 2016 for PC and PlayStation 4, ECHO offers a character-driven story with unsettling elements and gameplay that revolves around the actions of the gamer. Players walk in the shoes of En, an untried space traveler who has spent the last century in stasis. Arriving at her destination—an eons-old marvel of an ancient civilization known as The Palace—En seeks to use forgotten technology to bring back a life that should not have been lost.

The Palace itself is a living entity, studying everything users do. The Palace creates “Echoes” based on the information it gathers. As the name implies, Echoes are deadly copies of En with a sole purpose: destroy the player. Shifting and changing alongside En, The Palace evolves the Echoes based on the actions users take, becoming stealthier or more adept with the same combat techniques players use.

Each night, The Palace shuts down so that it might update the Echoes, granting the player a respite in the form of a Blackout. During this time, gamers have a small window of time in which they may act without consequence. However, when the Palace returns to life, the updated copies of En will have evolved and be even more relentless in their pursuit.

Ultra Ultra aims to create game experiences that transport players into the far reaches of their imagination.
