A trailer was released showing off gameplay for a new Dead Island game, which comes in full 80s nostalgia mode: Dead Island: Retro Rampage.

In it Max explains that while he was out curb-stomping zombies and just generally being a cool and swell guy, someone stole his truck which had his cat in it. Oh no! So now you have to run ‘n kill your way to sweet combos through hordes of zombies and soldier dudes just tryin’ to get in your way!

Okay, I’ll stop with the cheesy retro announcement voice. Although it doesn’t help that the trailer features an awkward Jack Black impression through-out.

Perhaps the most interesting aspect is that while it is billed for release as part of the Dead Island Definitive Collection, out on 31st of May, the release date on the Steam page is the 1st of August. You can also get the separate games Dead Island Definitive Edition and Dead Island: Riptide Definitive Edition on Steam which are both billed at having a 31st of May release date. Although it may be a simple Deep Silver overlook on Steam.

You can get the Dead Island Definitive Collection, which includes Retro Rampage, for PC, PS4 and Xbox One. If PC is your vice, you can also get 85% off for Dead Island Definitive and Riptide Definitive if you own the original version. Considering both editions not only include graphical improvements but also include DLC, it may be worth a punt for those wanting to lay into zombies all over again.
