Creative Assembly has provided an update on the future of the Total War franchise, confirming that the long-awaited Total War: Warhammer III is on the way.
The crossover series was announced as a trilogy back in 2015, with the first and second entries launching in 2016 and 2017 respectively.
However, the developer has been quiet about the promised third entry. That changed in a recent blog post.
Creative Assembly’s associate community manager James High wrote that “the third part of our trilogy is deep into production with the largest of our TW project teams revved up.”
No more specific timeframes are forthcoming at the current time, though High wrote that the team is “experimenting with […] talking about upcoming content more and giving you more of a sense of scale as to when you can expect updates.”
The blog post also mentioned that the developer sees the recently released Total War: Three Kingdoms as a platform for expansion, with plans to eventually “encompass a whole timeline of events, conflicts and characters throughout the period.”
The other significant piece of news is that a new Total War Saga is in development, though only hints were made: “we’re about to start singing an epic Saga. A tale of heroism and legendary events that has echoed down the ages.”
Dylan Warman reviewed Total War: Warhammer II for OnlySP, concluding it to be “exhilarating, allowing players to develop different playstyles [in an] enjoyable, mentally-stimulating experience.”
