After the March 31, 2017 announcement of Total War: Warhammer II, anticipation for the return of large-scale fantasy battles in the form of real-time strategy has been skyrocketing.
Slated to release sometime in 2017, Total War: Warhammer II has received its first in-engine trailer featuring the scaly Lizardmen. The trailer depicts a battle between an Elven army and the giant beasts and troops deployed by the Lizardmen. Watch the full trailer below.
The Lizardmen speak of their Great Plan as well, which means they wish to wipe out everyone who is not a lizard, similar to the goals of the Warriors of Chaos in the original game: To crush everyone.
The trailer mentions the “Fallen Gates,” itself a reference to the “Cosmic Gates,” which serve as a portal to the Realm of Chaos. For those who are less familiar with the world of Warhammer, Chaos serves as a means to basically toy with, or wipe out, all life, and the Chaos schemes are machinated by the Chaos Gods.
Total War: Warhammer II will also feature Dark Elves and Skaven as playable races. The Skaven were heavily teased in the Total War: Warhammer II reveal trailer at the end of March. No specific release date for Total War: Warhammer II has been announced outside of the 2017 window.
Total War: Warhammer, the first installment in Creative Assembly’s new Total War trilogy, was released for PC on May 24, 2016. Creative Assembly is making three installments in the series in the hopes that all three maps will be able to “slot” together, like puzzle pieces, into one giant playable campaign map. Whether players will be able to play a campaign across the “super map” at the end of the trilogy is unclear.
