OnlySP is back once again with our top three single player games of the month. This month offers a great mix of horror, open world adventures and challenging RPGs.

Alien: Isolation

Release Date: October 7th

Platforms: PS4, Xbox One, PC, PS3, Xbox 360

Ah . . . October, the month of candy and chillers. We’ve been awaiting Alien: Isolation since its announcement last year and a few days from now we’ll finally have our hands on it. Just remember to clean off the sticky candy mess first. A good Alien game has been a long time coming since the huge disappointment that was Aliens: Colonial Marines. Since that mess released we’ve been closely watching the development of Isolation hoping to the high heavens it wouldn’t find a similar fate.

Thankfully, there doesn’t seem to be a need to worry as The Creative Assembly has painstakingly developed Alien: Isolation to be as close to the source material as possible. They have also developed an innovative AI system that has the potential to change the way survival horror games work from here on out. We’ve also seen numerous impressive trailers as well as a thrilling TV commercial (check it out if you haven’t seen it) Yes, it looks like Isolation will be what fans have waited years for.

OnlySP is hoping the game is varied enough to keep the Alien a terrifying threat throughout this single player campaign as we all know that try-and-fail horror games can lose their scare factor after a few deaths.

Sunset Overdrive

Release Date: October 28th

Platforms: Xbox One

Insomniac Games is just about ready to take over the world by unleashing Over Charge Delirium XT  into the public in just four weeks’ time. Well, actually they’re just releasing one of Xbox’s most interesting looking exclusives this year with their game Sunset Overdrive. If you haven’t seen the funny as hell E3 trailer for the game yet, you should totally give it a look for a quick laugh, and by the way giving it a watch will give you an idea of what to expect from the ambitious project on October 28th.

Sunset Overdrive is a brand new IP for the Xbox One and from all that we’ve seen and heard so far, it should be a great addition to the quickly growing library of exclusives on the Xbox One. It’ll also be the first time that Xbox owners get a taste of what Insomniac has to bring to the table in terms of crazy weapons, colorful and imaginative worlds and more. Will the former Sony exclusive developer be embraced by Xbox One owners? We will soon see.

Lords of the Fallen

Release Date: October 28th

Platforms: PS4, Xbox One, PC

We’ve been watching Lords of the Fallen develop for quite a while now and even hosted one of the very first interviews on the game with Tomasz Gop last year. Fans of the Dark Souls series have also been closely monitoring Lords of the Fallen as it will be one of the PS4 and Xbox One’s first challenging action RPGs this generation.

While the game has been identified as a Dark Souls clone by many, Gop has been sure to stress that Lords of the Fallen is difficult, but not so difficult that you can’t play it. Deck13 assures players that when you die, you will know why you did and be able to come back a better player for it. You can watch the badass trailer for Lords of the Fallen just below to see what challenges you’ll face on October 28th.

The Evil Within

Release Date: PS4, Xbox One, PC, PS3, Xbox 360

Yes, we normally only do three games a month, but if we didn’t include The Evil Within on this list we’d probably have some ghouls showing up at our doorsteps ready to make us into bloody Halloween decorations.

The Evil Within is Shinji Mikami’s latest creation in the survival horror genre and so far the critical reception of the game has been quite positive at preview events. One of our own, Tripp, even got a chance to play the game himself at PAX. You can read his impressions of the game right here.

The Evil Within releases on October 14th, so be sure to pick it up, gut it out, and send us your horrified reactions on camera.

So, single player, what will you be picking up this October? Let us know in the comments section and don’t forget to follow us on Facebook and Twitter for all the latest single player reviews, news and more.
