Those Who Remain

Indie studio Camel 101 has finally revealed the debut gameplay footage of its upcoming thriller, Those Who Remain, with an unsettling atmosphere taking centre stage.

The trailer provides a few brief glimpses at the real-world segments of the project, but focuses on what the developer describes as “a mirrored version of our world.” This alternative dimension seems to characterised by the impossible and the uncanny, with thick fog, demonic monsters, wild natural growth, and an uncertain adherence to gravity all being in evidence.

Beyond the creepiness, the game appears to adhere to the trope common to interactive first-person narrative games, as exploration appears to be the primary interaction mechanic.

Details on Those Who Remain‘s story are fairly slim at present. Players will assume the role of Edward Turner, who arrives in the small, central USA town of Dormont to find that not all is what it seems. The developer promises that the mirrored worlds will reflect one another, with actions taken in one affecting details in the other.

Furthermore, the game will reportedly include multiple choices, which will affect the ending. The story is said to explore a number of “sensitive subjects,” including bullying and suicide.

The game was officially announced in January this year, with the team recently announcing that it was in the final stages of development.

Those Who Remain is currently targeting a 2019 release on PC, PlayStation 4, Switch, and Xbox One.
