The Walking Dead

Telltale Games has revealed the release date for the first episode of the final season of its The Walking Dead adaptation, and may be introducing some new gameplay to its formula.

Reddit user Somedankmeme9000 unearthed a video of a prototype demo (embedded below) featuring protagonist Clementine attacking and killing a constrained zombie with a brick she picks up from the ground. However, the player appears to be in direct control of the character prior to and following the encounter, suggesting that it is not hardcoded into the game’s story, as has historically been the case in Telltale’s projects. Another feature worth noting is the seeming free-roam camera, which stands in stark contrast to the on-rails nature of most of the developer’s products.

Nevertheless, whether gameplay so divergent from the norm will be present within the game is yet to be officially confirmed. The video, published in early April, notes that it is “pre-alpha footage [that] does not represent final quality.” Also worth noting is that, while not official, the outfit worn by Clementine mirrors her clothing in the key art, rather than that in the newest season’s official trailer.

Earlier today, Telltale revealed that the first episode of The Walking Dead: The Final Season will release on August 14, 2018.
