The Sinking City

Frogwares’s upcoming Lovecraft-inspired open-world investigation game The Sinking City has received a new trailer showing off some of the horrors players will encounter.

The pre-rendered teaser focuses on the atmosphere and setting of the project, rather than its gameplay. Viewers are privy to a long glimpse of the dilapidated, drowned city of Oakmont and a lonely boat floating along a canal that was once a street. However, the real feature of the trailer is the tentacled menace dwelling beneath the surface of the water, as well as a sideways step into what may well be a parallel world.

Similarly to many of Lovecraft’s stories, The Sinking City is set in a Massachusetts city in the 1920s. However, this locale has been beset by a calamity that has brought monsters and a growing madness among the inhabitants. Players enter the city as a private detective, and, as in the developer’s previous Sherlock Holmes games, exploration and intuition will be vital to success, though some combat will also be included.

The Sinking City does not current have a set release date, though it is scheduled for release on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
