I am one of the proud owners of the Saint’s Row 3 Collector’s Edition. Yes, the game is ‘pretty good’ at best, the DLC is good for a couple laughs, and the headphones are kind of terrible. But you don’t buy some large Third Street Saints-branded headphones because you want a quality product. No, it’s all about the novelty. Like most collector’s editions! That Lara Croft Play Arts Kai figure packaged with the Tomb Raider collector’s edition is probably going to just collect dust. Are you really going to watch that ‘Making of’ DVD that came with the Deus Ex: Human Revolution Augmented Edition? I thought not. But they’re cool little goodies that fans will appreciate, if not outright adore.
Thankfully, Volition’s new PR team over at Deep Silver agrees that Collector’s Editions should be about fun, irrelevant goodies. The “Super Dangerous Wub Wub Edition” comes with the pre-order goodies – a special VTOL, Uncle Sam skin, and gun – and, more importantly, a 12′ dubstep gun replica. The Johnny Gat statue and “Dubstep Doomsday Button” are nice bonuses, but that gun is honestly the real selling point here. It’s a shame the dildo bat is still unavailable to mass audiences, though. Now that Saint’s Row is in the hands of a company with money, maybe we’ll see one us plebeians can buy at some point.
At the moment, there’s no word on availability, but if your stores are anything like mine, there’s a good chance you’ll be able to find this several months after launch. For example, does anyone want an Assassin’s Creed 3 Collector’s Edition? I can get you five.
