According to Epic’s Mark Rein, he believes that Sony’s upcoming PlayStation 4 console is more inline with being the perfect gaming PC. Here is what he had to say about it.
“When you think about Windows, even Windows for most people is tied to about 2GB of addressable memory space,” he told CVG. “This really opens up beyond what most PCs can do, because most PCs are running a 32-bit version of Windows.
“It’s like giving you the world’s best PC … The kind of stuff that they announced that they’re doing, the level of convenience and things like that… they’re making a really perfect gaming PC.”
Does the PlayStation 4 have the power for a basic even perfect gaming PC? Sony gave us very few specs regarding the inside of console showing that it starts off having 8 GB of RAM. Also with GDDR5, it will give the system 176 GB/second bandwidth to increase performance of the system to help display high definition graphics in a smoother detail then the PlayStation 3. The GPU also contains 18 compute units that will generate 1.84 Teraflops of processing power which is all centered on a custom chip containing eight x86-64 cores.
With all that said and done, is the PlayStation 4 capable of performing and keeping up with high end PCs?
