We’ve gotten our greasy hands on the latest edition of GameInformer magazine and while reading their E3 preview of Dead Space 3, we learned a few new details that might surprise fans of the series. Ben Wanhe, Creative Director over at Visceral Games was quoted as saying
“We had a working prototype with Dead 1 and it was actually quite fun, but the technical problems it brought up, in terms of the density of the artwork included in the environments and all that, were issues that we were not well equipped to handle at that time, so we punted it.”
I’m glad they didn’t go with the co-op route in the original as the corridors of the Ishimura were already tightly packed, so having a co-op partner there with you would make me feel more claustrophobic than I already did. It certainly would have been nice to have a partner to face-off against that invincible enemy though, let the partner take the beating while you get away.
Gameinformer also noted that the fear factor in Dead Space is still here, with the corridor segments that we’re used to very much intact. The Feeder enemies that were introduced a while back sound even scarier. These new enemies were once human, but fed on the flesh of Necromorphs, thus mutating them into Feeders; essentially old-school zombies. When encountering Feeders, players can either try to stealthily avoid them, or go in guns blazing. If you choose to do the latter, there is a chance that the Feeder will call to the hordes. Should you choose to try to get by stealthily, Issac can throw an object to distract the Feeder. The Feeders are sensitive to light, so they hunt by smell and sound. Throwing an object with Issac’s scent will draw it away from the path you are on. Sounds pretty creepy right?
