The Light Keeps Us Safe

Big Robot, the development team behind The Signal from Tölva, has released the debut gameplay trailer for its upcoming survival game The Light Keeps Us Safe.

The game takes place in a world where the sky has gone dark and murderous robots populate the shadowed world. As is standard fare for the survival genre, the title tasks players with balancing the completion of objectives while maintaining the protagonist’s hunger and stamina, though this first look at gameplay does not delve into those aspects.

Instead, the trailer focuses on the mechanical enemies, which seem to be lulled into dormancy by the presence of light, and some of the unique light-based challenges that players will come across. The developer narration also alludes to different kinds of light that will serve different gameplay purposes.

Furthermore, the environments will be filled with various traps and hazards that must be avoided, and the level design is procedurally generated, meaning that no two playthroughs will be exactly the same.

The Light Keeps Us Safe is scheduled to launch on Steam Early Access on October 11, with a final release targeting March 2019. During that period, the developer will incorporate additional biomes, enemies, and types of light to diversify the title.
