If any of you were hoping to play The Last of Us with a friend, you’re out of luck. Despite having two protagonists, the game will not have cooperative modes of any kind.

Neil Druckmann, the game’s producer, stated in an interview that although multi-player modes are being worked on, the game’s campaign will not incorporate co-op.

We are supporting multiplayer with The Last of Us. We’re not ready to talk about the details of how multiplayer will be implemented, however we can say that it is not co-op within the main campaign.

To be fair, Naught Dog probably felt that trying to shoehorn in co-op wasn’t a smart move, which is understandable. The mention of other multi-player modes, however, is surprising. Do any of you feel that the single-player could still be compromised as a result of including multi-player as well? Leave us your thoughts below!

  1. In a way it would have been cool to have co-op but at the same time, I am glad it isn&#039t. Though makes me wonder, if you&#039ll be able to switch between the two characters throughout the single player experience?

    1. Indeed, that would be interesting. I&#039d like to see a few segments where you play as Ellie (that&#039s her name, right?), in which some entirely new gameplay mechanics would be introduced. It would really help to not only flesh out her character, but also add some variety.
