Anyone who has played The Last of Us, Naughty Dog’s PlayStation 3 exclusive, knows by now that the game deserves every award and every sale it has received.  And those sales are extraordinary, 3.4 million copies have been sold as of July 3rd. These are the numbers for both retail and digital copies combined.

Sony says it has “surpassed all sales expectation to become the fastest selling PS3 titles of 2013.” If that wasn’t enough it’s also the “fastest selling new software title in the history of PlayStation 3.” Shuhei Yoshida, President of Worldwide Studios, spoke about the sales numbers. He said:

“These sales figures are a testament to the blockbuster quality of The Last of Us. The teams at Naughty Dog are true visionaries and their storytelling capabilities are second to none, this title is an undisputed demonstration of that. SCE continues to be committed to delivering unique gameplay experiences that redefine the interactive entertainment industry and The Last of Us is a perfect example.”

Even Major Nelson, of Xbox fame, has congratulated Naughty Dog on their achievement, saying “Congrats @Naughty Dog – that is quite the achievement (or rather Trophy).”

    1. I am glad Naughty Dog is doing so well for themselves, I just hope they can keep it up into next gen.

      1. If they put The Last of Us 2 on PS4 they should have no problems. They’ve won so many fans over for it I don’t think anyone would hesitate to pick it up.
