The Sly Cooper series is well-known, among many other things, for its stylish animated cutscenes that humorously gave exposition to players before and after each mission. As a fantastic tribute to those cutscenes, this latest trailer for the upcoming Sly Cooper: Thieves In Time depicts one of Sly’s dangerous heists via a gorgeously animated cartoon aesthetic.

Without giving too much away, I’ll simply say that a certain bulldog features as the villain and the heist itself is ‘high-flying’ fun. It remains to be seen whether or not this mission will feature in the full game, though we’re betting it was thought up exclusively for this trailer. If so, it’s delightful to see the folks at Sony and Sanzaru having fun with the franchise like this and taking the time to passionately create what’s sure to be a great piece of marketing. Be sure to stick around for a simultaneously confusing and intriguing ending that may serve as a ‘flash-forward.’

UPDATE: Derp. Seeing as I’ve yet to play Sly 3, I had no idea that it ended the way it did. After finding out, I now see that the end of this video makes perfect sense. Not that hardcore Sly fans will laugh at me any less now, though.

Sly Cooper: Thieves In Time sneaks into retailers and the Playstation Network on Feb. 5 for PS3 and PS Vita. Keep in mind the former actually includes the latter thanks to the ‘cross-buy’ promotion. Both versions will carry a budget price tag, with $39.99 usd for PS3 and $29.99 usd for PS Vita.

  1. I am so glad they are staying true to the spirit of the franchise. After other disappointing reboots like Hitman: Absolution, it’s a good thing to see.
