Despite keen interest from gaming publishers, the team at OtherSide Entertainment is not ruling out the option of self-publishing for System Shock 3.

The dilemma occurred following the previous publisher of System Shock, Starbreeze, selling the rights back to OtherSide back in February 2019. According to an interview conducted by VGC with the creative director, Warren Spector, OtherSide is in talks with several partners that have expressed interest, but have thus far not landed on a final deal.

Spector went on to explain that OtherSide is fully capable of funding the publication, however, Spector would like to avoid that outcome. Spector had previously worked with publishers whilst working at Origin, so he is no stranger to the subject. One reason behind the resistance to self-publish is down to the company then needing to hire additional staff to take on the task:

“I think it would be a huge distraction. We would have to hire staff to do that because we don’t currently have the expertise. I hope we don’t go that way”

At present, the future of System Shock 3’s publication could go either way as the sci-fi, horror project continues in its development.
