Vampyr, the third-person vampiric RPG developed by French developer DONTNOD Entertainment, has a grisly new trailer riddled with story details and vampire folklore.

Story-wise, the game takes place in Spanish Flu-infested post-war London as the protagonist, Jonathon, struggles with the onset of vampirism. The game has a strong Strange Case of Dr. Jekkyl and Mr. Hyde influence, with Jonathon modeling himself as a man of science by day and a beast by night.

By day, players are expected to find a cure or treatment for the Spanish Flu epidemic, whilst balancing this humanitarian effort with their nighttime activities as a beastly vampire. Players can expect Vampyr‘s themes to be entrenched in the nature of man’s duality, a staple for Gothic horror.

DONTNOD has already revealed that murdering humans to satiate hunger will change the game’s ending, with the RPG having four endings in total. The effectiveness of these endings, plus the game’s story as a whole, relies upon how the developer balances temptation with consequence for player choice.

DONTNOD is best known for the episodic masterclass Life is Strange, but the developer will definitely be looking into making Vampyr a success to avoid being typecasted into story-driven projects.

Vampyr is shaping up nicely and looks to be the best game for the past few years to help scratch that never-ending Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines itch. The title launches on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on June 5.

The trailer is embedded below, but be sure to follow OnlySP on Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube before checking it out.
