Madmind Studio has provided a handful of preliminary details about its upcoming Agony spin-off Succubus.

As a successor to one of 2018’s most poorly received titles, Succubus might seem to be an ill-advised project. However, Madmind CEO Tomasz Dutkiewicz does not see it that way.

Speaking to OnlySP, he argued that “making a spin-off is obvious at this point” because of the recognition that the Agony IP enjoys.

“Our vision of hell is one of the most positively evaluated aspects of the game,” he said, adding that the feedback for the Succubus Mode—which gave players full control of one of the female demons, making them far more capable of killing enemies—was positive.

“We have an interesting vision of Hell and a powerful heroine that players like. [… We] want the Succubus gameplay to make players love our version of Hell again.”

Dutkiewicz also explained that the new game will not revisit any of the locations from Agony. “If Hell in Agony is like a huge city, then the first game only presented one district. Succubus takes us into a completely new area, a darker, more ominous, largely populated neighborhood, where brutality, hunting, and fighting are the everyday struggle.”

These details emerged as part of a larger interview about the difficult legal, financial, and reputational situation that Madmind found itself in last year after the release of Agony. That discussion is available here.
