Styx: Shards of Darkness, the sequel to the 2014 Of Orcs and Men prequel, Styx: Master of Shadows, today got a set of shiny new screenshots.

The three screenshots, which you can view below, provide us a deeper glimpse into the verticality-focused environments of Styx. With the power of Unreal Engine 4, the City of Thieves, built from shipwrecks, and the mountainous Elven city of Korangar, among many more promised, come to life in beautiful detail. In addition to bigger and more-beautiful environments, the semi-open nature of the various locales provides players with nearly-limitless freedom to choose how to tackle mission objectives. This includes Styx grappling around corners, climbing ropes and using his knife to zip-line down a wire. All together, these features aim to improve upon and expand the strengths of Master of Shadows.

While the screenshots are certainly enticing, judgment is best reserved until we see more up-to-date real-time gameplay. What do you think of this new look into this Styx sequel?

For the unfamiliar, Styx: Shards of Darkness follows a new adventure for the centuries-old goblin assassin, Styx. After his work at Akenash tower in the previous game, Styx: Master of Shadows, the goblin thief finds himself forced out of hiding. For as-yet-unknown reasons, he must infiltrate the purportedly-impenetrable Korangar, the city of Dark Elves, during a diplomatic summit at the city. He quickly finds out that the summit is just a facade to hide altogether-darker affairs.

Styx: Shards of Darkness is slated for release later this year on the Playstation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
