Originally set for an April 16 release on Steam, Anno 1800 is the next game to be leaving the platform for the Epic Games Store.
The change came with an update on the game’s Steam page, claiming “sales of Anno 1800 will be discontinued on Steam after April 16th due to a publisher decision to make the game exclusive to another PC store.”
However, the notice also reassures those who have already purchased the title that “all prior sales of the game on Steam will be fulfilled on Steam, and Steam owners will be able to access the game and any future updates or DLC through Steam.”
This is clearly an effort by Ubisoft to contain any potential backlash against the decision, given the overwhelmingly negative response to similar news in the past.
Still, whether good or bad, Epic Games and its quest for exclusivity seems to have no end in sight. Anno, though, will still be available on Ubisoft’s Uplay store, much to the chagrin of Steam.
