Vader Immortal

Lucasfilm’s next Star Wars VR experiment will be much more ambitious than its previous ones, with Vader Immortal being a full—though episodic—game.

This project differs from the previous Trials on Tatooine and Secrets of the Empire experiments in key ways.

The former was a free, contained experience that had players repairing the Millennium Falcon and defending R2-D2 in a desert environment.

Meanwhile, Secrets of the Empire is a more complete experience hosted at selected locations.

Vader Immortal, though, will be available to all owners of Oculus Rift and Oculus Quest headsets. Environmental interaction, stealth, and lightsaber combat are some of the gameplay elements evident in the new trailer embedded below.

The game also seems to be heavily story-focused, beginning with players trapped in Darth Vader’s fortress on Mustafar, before enabling them to escape and uncover revelations about the Sith’s plans.

Set between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, the game falls into the same time frame as Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, though whether it is connected to either of those earlier narratives is as yet unknown.

Vader Immortal is set to release in three parts, with the first set to arrive in the northern hemisphere’s spring.
