The teaser trailer for Star Wars: Battlefront II has leaked today, ahead of its officially scheduled unveiling this weekend.
As might be expected from a reveal trailer, the video (embedded below) is a cinematic outing, providing little more than hints at the campaign settings and details rather than gameplay footage. The brief, 30-second montage suggests that players will take the role of a previously unknown character, likely to be a female based on the trailer’s narration. Similarly, viewers are afforded a glimpse at such iconic locations as Endor and Hoth, with the campaign seemingly beginning in the immediate aftermath of the destruction of the Death Star.
Although the exact duration of the single-player campaign is unclear at this point, the trailer reveals that the multiplayer of Star Wars: Battlefront II will take place across all three eras of Star Wars lore, incorporating such well-known characters as Darth Maul, Yoda, Rey, and Kylo Ren. Beyond this, the trailer also hints that the planet-based battles of the first game will be accompanied by space-based battles, similar to those found in the ‘Death Star’ expansion.
The footage seen in the video above was rendered in the game’s engine, and is intended to be representative of the visual quality of the PlayStation 4 version.
Star Wars: Battlefront II is scheduled to be fully unveiled at Star Wars Celebration later this week, where an in-depth look at the game should be on offer. Although it is currently without a release date, EA has previously stated that it will fill the holiday slot usually reserved for the Battlefield franchise, which is reportedly on hiatus. Like its predecessor, the game is in development at DICE, with additional work being undertaken by Criterion and Motive Studios.
