Update: Gerighty changed his Twitter icon and banner to fit a Splinter Cell theme just moments after posting the initial tweet. Despite the overwhelming evidence, Ubisoft released a statement on the matter to USGamer.

The statement reads, “Julian was obviously joking as Julian likes to do. It looks like our creative directors are having fun right now. We do not have any announcements to make at this time.”

Original Story: Splinter Cell is alive and well, and players may have more information to look forward to next month.

Announced with little fanfare on Twitter, creative director at Ubisoft Julian Gerighty has confirmed that “the next Splinter Cell” entry is coming. Check out the surprise reveal tweet below.

Ubisoft leads Dan Hay and Roman Campos-Oriola were also confirmed to have a hand in the project thanks to the tweet.

Gerighty also alludes to more information to be unveiled during E3 next month, though he does not confirm the game will have a presence at the show.

After years of waiting for even the smallest drop of news about the classic stealth series, this tweet comes as a shock. The last time a full-fledged entry in the series was released was more than six years ago with Splinter Cell: Blacklist. Check out OnlySP’s review here.

Michael fell into the OnlySP team toward the end of 2017. You’ll mostly catch his work over in the news area, but that doesn’t mean he won’t dip into the features section every now and then. For him, gaming doesn’t get much better than Metal Gear Solid and Super Mario Sunshine. Though he is a die-hard Nintendo fan, he grew up on PlayStation.
