The upcoming Spider-Man game from Ratchet and Clank developers Insomniac Games received eight minutes of gameplay footage during Sony’s E3 press conference.
The new trailer was mission-based, showing the superhero engaging a series of goons in combat before opening up to an extended demonstration of the open-world traversal that the game will include. Heavy on fast-paced action, the footage also displayed an array of quick-time moments built into the core gameplay, for activities ranging from combat to traversal and mission-sensitive tasks.
Furthermore, although Spider-Man clearly refers to himself as “Pete” at one point, the footage also provides a brief glimpse at the character who has more recently taken up the mantle of the superhero in the comics, Miles Morales. While the tease proves nothing, the inclusion of Morales suggests the possibility that players will be able to play as both characters with differing skillsets, or, otherwise, that co-operative play may be included in some capacity.
With inspiration appearing to be drawn from the Batman: Arkham games, the inFamous series, and Insomniac’s own Sunset Overdrive, Spider-Man is looking like a very fun experience. The game is currently slated to arrive on PlayStation 4 sometime in 2018.
