CI Games has confirmed that work has begun on a new tactical shooter that may be a separate IP from its existing Sniper Ghost Warrior series.
The company recently announced that it was putting the disastrous reception to this year’s Sniper Ghost Warrior 3 behind it and “moving forward without any tag attached to [the] next project,” according to Chief Executive Officer Marek Tymiñski. That title will eschew the open-world setting of Sniper Ghost Warrior 3 and revert to a more linear campaign that will allow the game to be the most tactics-focused title that the team has ever made.
In making the announcement, CI Games reflected on its previous project, stating that it was simply too ambitious to realise the vision. Given that the company is a mid-size developer, the attempt to scale up to a AAA level, with all the production values and features of similar titles, proved too difficult to achieve within the development timeframe. Despite acknowledging the failure, the team remains upbeat, using Sniper Ghost Warrior 3’s shortcomings as a learning experience to guide development of the new tactical shooter.
In addition to announcing the new project, CI Games reiterated the decision to develop a sequel to 2014’s Lords of the Fallen, this time without the involvement of original developer Deck 13. Lords of the Fallen 2 was originally scheduled to launch in 2017, but the lack of news surrounding the title suggests a delay beyond this timeframe.
