UPDATE: Shadow of the Tomb Raider has now been officially confirmed, alongside a teaser trailer.
The first official word on Shadow of the Tomb Raider is expected to arrive tomorrow, but the most pertinent details may have been uncovered early.
The official website for Tomb Raider has received a visual update of a crescent moon, annotated with the date and time 15/03/18, 6AM PDT, suggesting that an announcement will be coming tomorrow regarding the series. However, fans need not be in the dark, as the site’s source code reveals important information regarding the upcoming release news. A cursory analysis of the source code unearths many of the game’s important details, including its release, platforms, and story hints.
The new project is titled Shadow of the Tomb Raider, with the code stating that the next Tomb Raider game will be “the climatic finale in Lara’s origin story.” The sequel will reportedly have a September 14 release on PC, Playstation 4, and Xbox One.
These newfound detail follows a substantial leak of cover art for the game in June 2017, along with a hint from the publisher, Square Enix, in December.
Interestingly, the reveal looks to land on the day before the upcoming Tomb Raider film’s US release, so Square Enix may be trying to drive up hype for the blockbuster with the announcement.
Of course, nothing is definite with these sort of hints, but typically when release details are inscribed in code so blatantly, the information is often correct.
