The PS4 remake of the classic 1989 Commodore Amiga game, Shadow of the Beast will release with an unlockable copy of the original version. This announcement comes from Heavy Spectrum CEO and founder Matt Birch in a recent PlayStation blog post.

“As fans of the original, we wanted to make sure that we did everything we could to give new players that same experience that inspired us,” says Birch.

According to Birch, the original version of Shadow of the Beast will be a complete emulation and will include an infinite lives mode and a couple other small features that will help new players through the notoriously difficult game. These features are completely optional and can be turned off for players who are looking for a more challenging experience.

The game will also include an unlockable that will allow players to use the original game’s soundtrack composed by Dave Whittaker. The soundtrack will also be available as a standalone download on the PlayStation Store.

Shadow of the Beast will follow the same story as the original and once again puts the player in control of Aabron. The game will feature a similar parallax scrolling from the original title, now in 3D and will build upon the game’s original mechanics introducing combos, a traditional health bar, and quick time events.

Shadow of the Beast releases on May 17 exclusively for the PS4.
