LGM Games has announced that its latest space-sim, Starpoint Gemini 3, will launch to Steam Early Access on September 5.
The project follows its predecessors in taking the Early Access route, which has proven to be a boon for the final products. For this latest release, LGM is anticipating a six-to-twelve-month community-assisted development period.
The initial launch will include approximately one third of the final universe, as well as “essential features and a base layer of assets.”
Yet to be added are mechanics such as crafting and the skill system, as well as additional models, audio, and visual polish.
However, as with previous iterations, the development team is opening its ears for feedback from players to ensure the game is as good as it can possibly be.
Starpoint Gemini 3 puts players in the shoes of the aptly named starship captain Jonathon Bold as he explores the universe. As with previous games in the series, players have immense freedom in how they want to engage, being able to follow career paths as diverse as bounty-hunting, piracy, and trading.
OnlySP’s review of the previous entry, the spin-off Starpoint Gemini Warlords, scored it as a Credit (3/5), concluding that “the excitement of the interstellar dogfights and the satisfaction of growing an empire to last the ages are invigorating.”
