Hearsay and rumors are an exciting aspect of life and the world of video games is no different! Here at OnlySP we are putting together a host of games that are rumored to be on their way in the next few years. None of these games are plucked out of thin air however, as all are supported with proof in some way.
Not all of these games may see the light of day, but here’s hoping we get to play them all over the next few years…
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Due to an appearance on the Australian Classification Rating Board, a new TMNT game looks to be on its way from Platinum Games, who are responsible for titles such as Vanquish, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, and Bayonetta.
A new trademark for Onimusha has been spotted online, meaning a revival of the popular series of the 2000’s may be on its way to this generation. Whether its a brand new title or a remaster of a previous entry is yet to be seen, but this will excite a lot of people nonetheless.
The Suicide Squad film is releasing next year and the video game tie-in has now been confirmed along with it. The team behind it is Warner Brothers Montreal, who brought us Batman Arkham: Origins and are reportedly developing a different, as-yet-unannounced DC game as well.
Sony Bend’s Unreal Engine 4 Open World Survival Horror
The last game to come from Sony Bend was the surprisingly good Uncharted: Golden Abyss for Playstation Vita. Now there are reports of a new game using the UE4 engine, with all signs pointing towards an open-world survival horror game.
Han Solo Game
Visceral Games, owned by EA and most popularly known for the Dead Space series, have been dropping major hints about a new Star Wars game in the works with Han Solo looking like the main character. Star Wars Battlefront released last month but was unfortunately multiplayer-only, so let’s hope us single players can delve into one of the biggest media franchises of all time once again.
Ace Combat 7
Some notes about the latest update to Ace Combat: Infinity on a Japanese message board have left clues about the next possible entry in the flight simulator series to possibly being announced at PSX last month.
The game has now been confirmed and will release for Playstation 4 and Playstation VR.
God of War 4
Sony Santa Monica are set to release some new information at PSX this weekend and with their most popular series yet to grace the Playstation 4 with a brand new title, God of War seems the most likely outcome. It could of course be a brand new IP, but with Kratos maintaining his place as one of Playstation’s poster boys, a return to Ancient Greece would be very welcome.
Red Dead Redemption 2
A cryptic answer from a former Rockstar developer to a harmless question may have let slip about a new game in the Red Dead series. The answer, when asked what was coming up for Rockstar, was “Really? Dumbass. Really? Two?” which offers the letters RDR followed by a 2. Of course, any game in the series would be the third in the series after Red Dead Revolver was followed by Red Dead Redemption, so this information should perhaps be taken with a pinch of salt, but considering the popularity of Red Dead Redemption, we can all dare to dream a little bit.
Dead Island Redux
A Dutch retail site has hinted at a remaster for the original Dead Island currently in development. Deep Silver haven’t made any hint themselves towards the game, but a release for PC, Xbox One, and PS4 would seem the obvious choice.
Alan Wake 2
Sam Lake was the main man behind Alan Wake back in 2010, and while promoting his latest game Quantum Break, due out in April 2016, he was asked about the whether we would ever see a second full Alan Wake game. His response was simply, “Yes”. Quite a definitive answer, but no word on development or time-scale means it could be a while before we see a follow-up to the first psychological thriller.
(Status: Announced and vanished)
First revealed back in 2009, Rockstar’s mysterious project still seems a frustratingly long way away. Supposedly set during the height of the Cold War during the 1970s, very little information has been revealed about the project that will surely come with huge expectations from the minds behind Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption.
Resident Evil 7
The seventh flagship title in the massively popular horror franchise from Capcom is reportedly in the works with an initial teaser video released a year ago, which you can see below.
In October, Capcom told fans to “stay tuned” about Resi 7 but other than that, no real information has been let loose as of yet.
The Last of Us 2
After the enormous success of the original post-apocalyptic zombie-fest from Naughty Dog, a sequel was inevitably going to hinted by fans. Back in the Summer, Nolan North (voice of David from the first game and, of course, Nathan Drake from Uncharted) accidentally revealed that work had already began on the sequel.
Still no official announcement from Naughty Dog, but all the signs are good for a reveal sooner rather than later.
Dawn of War 3
Reddit users managed to uncover proof that Relic Games has registered a domain for Dawn of War 3 back in July 2015. The Company of Heroes developers have yet to make any official announcement, and word has been quiet since the initial reveal, but the hope of a third entry in the Real-time Strategy series based on Warhammer is strong.
New Volition IP
The Saints Row developers look to be stepping away from their most popular and successful franchise with a brand new IP in the future.
Volition put a call out for new animators, world builders and system designers in the summer with hope that applicants will want to “contribute to the development of a new IP.” Quite a clear notion for what Volition are planning next then, but any official announcement is still yet to be made.
Nordic Games were recently very open about their reasons in producing the Darksiders 2 remaster – The Deathinitive Edition. Speaking on one of Steam’s Community forums a representative for the company openly said that the release was used to gauge interest for a potential Darksiders 3.
Since this news back in November, we’re yet to hear of any more updates for the game, but this comment was pretty substantial and it shouldn’t be long before an official announcement is made.
Hopefully we’ll get to see plenty of these games officially announced or even released during 2016! As always, to keep up with any updates from any of these or other Single Player games make sure to keep in touch with OnlySP on Facebook and Twitter.
