Since the conclusion of the highly regarded Batman: Arkham series in 2015, fans have been eagerly awaiting the next project by developer Rocksteady.

The Arkham games became renowned not just for the compelling gameplay and story, but for the creators’ tendency to fill each entry with Easter Eggs. Many of these in-game nods to either the source material or future content still drive the community to scour minute details in the hopes of uncovering clues towards a potential successor to the franchise.

One of the more prominent theories is that the next game will feature the Man of Steel: Superman. The notion of a title following Clark Kent’s alter-ego is supported by several references across the Arkham series to that hero’s home city of Metropolis, as well as several leaks that suggested the title would be announced at the 2016 VGAs.

Now, years later, a potential leak made its way to 4Chan claiming important details for not only a Superman project, but also a multiplayer-focused Justice League game. The hightlights from the leak are listed below:

  • Created on Unreal Engine 4
  • Open-world Metropolis (about three times the size of Arkham Knight’s Gotham)
  • No playable version of Clark Kent
  • Brainiac features as the main villain
  • Semi-destructible environments
  • Combat system integrates flying
  • Set within the Arkhamversee

While fans will surely be excited about the prospect of fighting Brainiac in an open-world environment, some are already criticising the decision to re-use Brainiac for another DC-based video game so soon after the release of Injustice 2.

The leaker then goes on to write that “Rocksteady and WB Montreal are also working on a joint multiplayer game. […] This is for a planned Justice League game down the road. They had to nail Superman first,” also claiming that gamers can expect gameplay as early as E3 2018.

Given that these claims come from an anonymous individual on a source known for its lack of reliability, they should be considered as a long-shot until an official announcement is forthcoming from either Rocksteady or Warner Bros.
