As the developers of the fan favourite Killzone series, Guerilla Games have proven themselves as one of Sony’s premier development studios since being welcomed into the fold back in 2005. It was announced back in 2010 that they have been working on a new IP, but absolutely nothing has been forthcoming about it since then, in spite of the release of Killzone 3 and the revelation that their new satellite studio Guerrilla Cambridge (previously Sony Cambridge) is working on a Vita iteration, Killzone: Mercenary. Reading between the lines of their Christmas post on the Playstation Blog makes it seem extremely likely that the main studio will be unveiling, and possibly releasing, their latest effort sometime within 2013:

With Killzone: Mercenary on the way, 2013 is gearing up to be another big year for Guerrilla – quite possibly the biggest since we released the original Killzone way back in 2004.

The obvious clue comes from the reference to the original Killzone, which was also a new IP at the time. Michael Urban took a cynical look at their job listings earlier in the year, coming to the conclusion that their new project will be a first person shooter, though without confirmation, it’s really only speculative. It is also widely expected that whatever their next game is, it will be available for the PS4, possibly as a launch title, as the console is heavily rumoured to be releasing some time within the next twelve months and previous assertions that the team has moved solely into the development for the new console. Only time will tell and until then, enjoy some Helghast-inspired Christmas baubles.
