It’s true that we may sometimes seem like pretentious snobs who completely scoff at the very idea of a multiplayer component. However, we’re not always like that. If a multiplayer component is genuinely well designed and imaginative, we’re willing to give it a shot.
What’s a bit more disheartening is this latest rumor: the upcoming Tomb Raider reboot, which is quickly approaching release, may be set to grow an extraneous multiplayer component at the last minute.
That snippet about multiplayer has since been removed, not to mention no such feature has been announced by Square Enix yet, so this is a rumor for now. Still, whoever wrote that sentence clearly knew what they were talking about, since they convincingly mention both potential factions for the mode and otherwise set up a plausible scenario for it.
What really worries us is that if this rumor holds true, then it’s almost guaranteed to spawn a hastily cobbled multiplayer segment. If Tomb Raider is set to deploy in a little over two months (March 5) and this is the first we’ve ever heard of a multiplayer mode for it, then it couldn’t have been in development for very long. Can anyone say last-minute rush job?
