Ah, the Thief series. How we cult fans adore its open-ended stealth gameplay and steampunk aesthetic. Wouldn’t it be nice if Eidos finally revealed the fourth entry in the series that they’ve been supposedly but troublesomely working on? According to some pretty taffing interesting info that’s recently been dug up, they may do just that tomorrow.
Neogaf user “Wario64″ has recently pieced together some enticing evidence. Firstly, Game Informer’s editor-in-chief, Andy McNamara, recently tweeted the following:
Interesting, but it doesn’t point to any signs of a Thief 4 reveal. No, that, my friends, would be a task more reserved for Game Informer’s recent “Test Chamber” video for Crysis 3. Around 8 minutes into the video, one guy jokes about 2013 being the ‘year of the bow’ and goes on to say that the next Game Informer cover has a bow on it.
That certainly narrows down the possibilities. Thief fans will know that the bow was a significant piece of Garrett’s arsenal, and the box art for the first two titles displayed him holding a bow proudly and prominently. Having him do the same for Thief 4 promotion doesn’t sound implausible in the least.
The final detail is one from the Thief section of the Eidos forums. Community manager “b1skit” stated the following today in a thread discussing the recent filing of the Deus Ex: Human Defiance trademark:
“*ahem* What’s this??
You guys are talking about Deus Ex in the Thief forums??
This won’t do. Not at all.
I’m gonna have to do something about this………….. Something drastic.
Lets reconvene tomorrow. Set your watches, taffers.”
Significant news about the Thief series is supposedly coming tomorrow, he/she hinted, the same day Game Informer will unveil a game that has a good amount of anticipation and excitement behind it. Coincidence? We think not.
Since this possible reveal is hot off the heels of the recent PS4 announcement, we also have good reason to believe that Thief 4 will be a next-gen title. Keep in mind that all of this a rumor, so don’t go taffing about and speaking of this as if it were proof of a reveal just yet. Still, get slightly excited, Thief fans. This is the most activity and intrigue that has appeared around Thief 4 in a good long while. Let’s just hoped that if we do see it tomorrow, it’s not called Thi4f like they originally planned. I mean, come on. That’s just taffing stupid.
Stay tuned for more news on Thief 4 should we get any more info on it. Are you excited for it, and what’s your favorite game in the Thief series? Let us know!
