Update: Here’s an official press release provided by Square Enix.
“Yes, Microsoft will be publishing ‘Rise of the Tomb Raider’ on Xbox. Microsoft has always seen huge potential in ‘Tomb Raider’ and they will get behind this game with more support across development, marketing and retail than ever before, which we believe will be a step in continuing to build the ‘Tomb Raider’ franchise as one of the biggest in gaming.”
“Our partnership with Microsoft on ‘Rise of the Tomb Raider’ does have a duration, but we aren’t discussing those details at this time and are focused on collaborating to deliver a great game on Xbox One and Xbox 360.”
From the dark corners of the gaming industry, it seems that another exclusivity deal is coming to the light as Aaron Greenberg, the head of marketing for Xbox may have spilled the beans on Rise of the Tomb Raider’s exclusivity details.
Answering a question on Twitter, Greenberg told the user that Microsoft is in fact publishing Rise of the Tomb Raider, which, if true, would mean Microsoft is financially invested in the game. This in turn lessens the chances of the game heading towards the PS4 platform soon after the Xbox One release.
@diosmekemeke Yes we are publishing Rise of the Tomb Raider.

Microsoft has previously noted that the deal is similar to that of the Dead Rising 3 exclusivity deal they had with Capcom. So the likely outcome is long-term exclusivity on the Xbox One and later a release on the PC platform. Not great news for PS4 owners, but then again, companies will go where the money is, and just as Sony probably threw a nice chunk of cash at Capcom for Street Fighter V, I’m sure Microsoft did the same for Rise of the Tomb Raider.
