Crystal Dynamics has once again written about the exclusive deal that they have made with Microsoft for their upcoming sequel to Tomb Raider, Rise of the Tomb Raider.

Since the announcement at Gamescom that Rise of the Tomb Raider would be an Xbox exclusive for a certain period of time, many gamers were displeased with the announcement…to say the least. Phil Spencer provided more details on the subject last week, fully disclosing that the agreement has a duration, but for how long, we still don’t know.

Crystal Dynamics doesn’t go into specific timing in their latest blog post either, but they do provide a little bit of clarification on why they made the deal. You can read the full quote just below.

Yes, our deal with Microsoft has a duration. We aren’t discussing details of the deal, and are focused on delivering a great game on Xbox One and Xbox 360.

Yes, Crystal Dynamics is excited to be partnering with Microsoft to make the best game possible. As Darrell mentioned in his message, we have a long history with Microsoft and they have been a very strong supporter of the franchise. They will help us grow and nurture the Tomb Raider franchise more than ever before.

We did not make this decision lightly. Our goal is to build the best game that we possibly can, and our relationship with Microsoft will help us realize our vision for the game.

We certainly didn’t intend to cause any confusion with the announcement. The Microsoft Gamescom stage was a great place to make the initial announcement, but not necessarily to go into details.

Thankfully the heat from that announcement has dropped a bit, but there’s still plenty of conversations being had about the exclusivity deals being made across all the gaming platforms big or small.

We’ll be sure to keep you updated on any further Rise of the Tomb Raider developments so be sure to follow us on Facebook and Twitter to stay up to date with all the latest.

  1. They didn’t provide any new details at all. They just repeated what we already knew. Saying that “the deal has a duration” doesn’t tell us if Rise of the Tomb Raider will ever come to PS4 or PC. They could have achieved the same result with a statement that said, “No comment.”

    1. its TIMED what did you not get?

Also ms paid 50 milion for gta iv dlcs. TIMED.

So if they paid say 30 milion they payed most of the development costs. So no its not the same result.

      1. You’re jumping to conclusions. They only said that ‘the deal has a duration.’ They don’t indicate if the duration is a delay on porting this game, or if it is a ‘one game’ duration or ‘two game’ duration, wherein this game is prohibited from other consoles until the ‘deal’ expires. The latter is exactly what Microsoft did with Titanfall. Thanks for assuming I’m not paying attention, when clearly you are the one not minding the details. Their language is intentionally vague.

        1. Phil spencer “i dont own the ip or the studio, our deal is timed they can do whatever they want after that”

What else you need to know?

          1. Again, and I’m not sure how you’re not getting this, he didn’t buy the IP. That doesn’t mean that they didn’t buy exclusivity on Rise of the Tomb Raider just like they did for Titanfall. They didn’t buy that IP or studio either. Titanfall 2 may be eligible for release on PS4, but Titanfall is a console exclusive for Xbox. They have not said specifically “yes, RotTR will eventually come to other platforms.” That’s exactly what I need to know, and they are artfully dodging the answer. Now if you don’t have any concrete facts to provide, you should quit acting like a smartass.

          2. He said it was timed. So obviosuly he didnt buy the whole game. He said it “the deal is timed just like dead rising 3, after that they can do whatever they want”

“they are artfully dodging the answer.”

Who doesnt? you got to read between the lies.

“you should quit acting like a smartass.”

Atleast am smart when you cant even read between the lies.

“No dead rising 3 is not coming to ps4 or pc its exlusive to xbox one”

^That being said, dont listen to their bs, it will be released on pc and ps4 later.

          3. Reading between the lines does not equal concrete facts. Thanks for playing. I’m done here.

          4. i wasnt playing, if you dont know to read between the lies, then you will be tossed around for your whole life.

Like i said capcom stated “dead rising 3 is not time, its not coming to ps4 or pc FACT.”

The fact was dissporven by themselfs it is now coming to pc.
