Sony stole the show at E3 2013, but some are less enthusiastic about the company’s showing last week. In an interview with CVG, Scott Rohde, Vice President of Product Development for Sony Worldwide Studios touched on various issues that Sony is facing post E3 2014.
Although not at the show, Rohde again confirmed that The Last Guardian is still not canceled (just like Shuhei Yoshida did earlier last week).
“I was quite clear in saying that it hasn’t been cancelled, and that’s really all I have to say about it…”
When pushed on the issue, Rohde gave us a look into the thought process in when to call it quits on a game in development.
“But I want to make this very clear, there’s not a culture at PlayStation where somebody in a suit will stand up and say, ‘Hey you crazy development guys, what are you doing? Stop spending money on Game X’. That’s not how it works, it’s always a collaborative decision and we try as hard as we can to let that creative director find their ultimate vision.”
Probably the most exciting news for gamers is that a new Sony Santa Monica game is in the works and Rohde did not announce much. However, he did not hide his excitement for Santa Monica’s new project.
“As you can image, in my role I’m at those studios all the time. I was just there a couple of weeks ago reviewing their latest work on some of the games that you’ve seen and some that you haven’t, and I’m very excited about it.”
