Star Fox Grand Prix

In quite the strange turn of events, a rumor has begun circulating that Retro Studios is working on a Star Fox racing game.

Sources informed Eurogamer that the Nintendo-owned developer is working on the racer after a previous title was canceled due to a rocky development cycle. As of now, the working title for this new game is Star Fox Grand Prix, with a logo sent in to IGN:

Star Fox Grand Prix

Retro is most famous for its work on the critically acclaimed Metroid Prime Trilogy and Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, so a racing game in the shoes of the Star Fox franchise seems a bit of a U-turn. However, the team also contributed to the track designs of 2011’s Mario Kart 7. Further adding to the rumors, Star Fox Grand Prix is reported to follow more in the footsteps of Diddy Kong Racing than most kart racers thanks to a story mode and boss battles.

If the rumors turn out to be true, they help to explain what Retro has been up to for the last four years.

Despite these rumors coming from all corners of the internet, the existence of Star Fox Grand Prix remains unconfirmed by Nintendo, so all of the previous information should be taken with a grain of salt.

The evidence is staggering to say the least, though, so for more updates on this developing story, keep checking in with OnlySP on TwitterFacebook, and YouTube.
