We’ve known for quite awhile now that Quantum Break would most likely be coming to the PC. I mean, let’s be honest, why wouldn’t it? Remedy released Alan Wake on PC after being an Xbox 360 exclusive when it was originally released. According to Remedy, they recouped the cost of Alan Wake’s PC development and marketing within the first 48 hours of being available on Steam. So again, I ask: Why is this coming as a surprise to anyone?

The obvious answer is that Microsoft has been billing Quantum Break as an Xbox One exclusive since its announcement. There had been rumblings about the game coming to PC as well for well over a year now, but today it was made official; Quantum Break will arrive on the Xbox One and PC on April 5th. Now that the news has dropped, people are already saying they’re going to cancel pre-orders and asking if the Xbox One is relevant anymore, as is custom for when Microsoft, or even Sony, makes changes or announcements like this it seems.

Well, look at it this way: Fable Legends, originally announced as an Xbox One exclusive is coming to Windows 10. Gears of War: Ultimate Edition is coming to Windows 10. Quantum Break is coming to Windows 10. ReCore is coming to Windows 10. Gears of War 4 will most likely also be coming to Windows 10. Does that make the Xbox One irrelevant? If you’re a predominantly PC gamer, then maybe it does. If you’re like me and prefer to play on console, then maybe it doesn’t.

In any case, most developers want to release their games on as many platforms as possible. Why is that, you ask? Because money. Obviously. I’m willing to bet that most, if not all game developers could give a damn about the so called “console wars”, and all the bickering about which console is “better” on the internet. If developers working with Microsoft can release a game on both Xbox One and Windows 10, why the hell shouldn’t they? It’s more money in their pockets, which helps them to continue creating more games. Kinda the point of running a business, isn’t it?

The same can be said for any platform with exclusive content. It doesn’t matter if it’s the PS4, Xbox One, PC, Wii U or even the ill-fated Ouya. If a developer is exclusively releasing a game on a certain platform, it’s because they made a sweet business deal to do so. Quantum Break not being an Xbox One exclusive may derive some value for people who have yet to pick up an Xbox One as it’s one less game that you can “only” play on the platform, but I’m willing to bet that people who buy a game console for a single title are in the minority.

The simple point of the matter is: more people will get to play Remedy’s latest game. If you see that as a “bad” thing, I’d ask that you explain to me why that is. Everyone has a different preference for how they like to play their games. I have a PS4, Xbox One and PC. Even if we get a review copy of a game on PC, I still prefer to play that same game on my console. Why? Because I do. I’m sure I’m not the only one that thinks this way either. Don’t make a game being exclusive to one platform or the other a bigger deal than it needs to be.
