Double Fine Productions has delayed Psychonauts 2 to 2020, but reaffirmed that the game will still release on PlayStation 4 following the studio’s acquisition with Microsoft.

In a blog post on Fig, Double Fine announced that Psychonauts 2 has been delayed until 2020 to increase the quality of the game, explaining “We know it’s always disappointing when you have to wait a bit longer, but we also know that you are an amazing, supportive bunch, who—just like us—want the game to be as good as possible.”

The studio also was confirmed that Microsoft purchased the rights to publish Psychonauts 2 from Starbreeze Studios, which has had its own share of struggles. This news comes to no surprise as Double Fine officially joined Xbox Game Studios last month.

However, even though Psychonauts 2 will be published by Microsoft as a first-party title, Double Fine reassured that it will still be released on other platforms as promised:

“Now, before anyone panics! We have confirmed that we will be able to honor Psychonauts 2 for every platform that we have already promised here, and that includes bringing the game to PlayStation 4!”

Psychonauts 2 was originally slated for release this year on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, but will now release in 2020.
