Last week, superhero fans were teased with a new Spider-Man game, listed on actor Stephen Ouyoung’s online resume. The page has since been made private but was captured by WCCFTech.com hereAmong Ouyoung’s other motion capture roles including Halo 2: Anniversary, Batman: Arkham City and Batman: Arkham Knight. The resume revealed a lead role in “Untitled Spiderman PS4 Project”.

Now, WCCFTech has found recent tweets from the proven source Nerd Leaks that may hint at the game’s developer being Sucker Punch Productions. When asked about the possibility of Sucker Punch developing the rumored game, Nerd Leaks replied that the developer’s next title is “spectacular,” with the character artist requiring a “strong understanding of the history of costume design”.

Nerd Leaks went on to reiterate that a potential Spider-Man game from Sucker Punch would be “spectacular”, an adjective associated with the character since his own spin-off comics in the 60s and 70s.

For fifteen years, Spider-Man games have been published by Activision for various home and handheld systems. While the 2004 tie-in Spider-Man 2 stands as a highlight of the superhero genre, the recent titles developed by Beenox have met with mixed critical reception. The latest developed for home consoles, The Amazing Spider-Man 2, released alongside the movie of the same name in 2014.

A PlayStation-exclusive video game set in the Marvel universe may have seemed far-fetched before the PS4 released, but since then Activision and Marvel’s partnership has ended and the PlayStation brand has seen meteoric success, with around 40 million PS4s in the hands of customers worldwide, there could be an argument for focusing the Spider-Man licence’s development resources on a single system.

If Sony is indeed working on a PS4 Spider-Man game, Sucker Punch is the ideal candidate. Through the Infamous series on PlayStation 3 and 4, they have shown a passion for superhero stories and a dedication to quality, such that even without a licence their next project was going to turn heads.

Any official announcements regarding Sucker Punch’s next project or the PlayStation Spider-Man game are likely to happen closer to Sony’s E3 presentation. Until then, stay tuned to OnlySP and be sure to follow us on Twitter (@Official_OnlySP) and Facebook.
